Configuring Cluster Redundancy Mode

The Media Transcoding Cluster feature provides load-sharing and cluster redundancy between multiple Media Components. Load sharing attempts to distribute transcoding sessions equally between Media Components. Cluster redundancy offers the following schemes:

HA Mode: (Default) The SBC device guarantees that in case of a failure in a Media Component, sufficient DSP resources are available on the other Media Components to take over the active transcoding sessions of the failed Media Component. Therefore, a situation never occurs where all the Media Components are utilizing all their DSP resources at any given time. Once a failure occurs in a Media Component, the SBC device temporarily operates in Best Effort mode (see below) until the faulty Media Component returns to service, after which the SBC device operates again in HA mode. If a failure still exists in the Media Component and you want the SBC device to continue operating in HA mode, you need to remove the failed Media Component from the table of configured Media Components.
Best Effort: The SBC device allocates transcoding sessions to the Media Component without guaranteeing availability of DSP resources on other Media Components should the Media Component fail. Therefore, a situation may occur where all Media Components are utilizing all their DSP resources at any given time. However, if a failure occurs in a Media Component and there are some DSP resources available on other Media Components, the SBC device transfers as many active sessions as possible to the other Media Components. Sessions for which DSP resources are unavailable are dropped. Therefore, the Best Effort mode enables greater session capacity, but at the expense of cluster HA.
To configure cluster redundancy:
1. In the SBC device's Web interface, open the Cluster Manager Settings page (Setup menu > IP Network tab > Media Cluster folder > Cluster Manager Settings).
2. From the 'Cluster Redundancy Mode' drop-down list, select the redundancy method Best Effort or HA Mode:

3. Click Apply.
