Configuring Global Parameters

Parameters that are not contained in a table are referred to as global parameters.

When entering a value for a parameter, the parameter's field is highlighted and a pop-up box appears, providing a short description of the parameter, for example, valid values.

When you enter an invalid value, the field is displayed with a red border and a pop-up box describes the problem. In such cases, do one of the following:
Click the Cancel button (located at the bottom of the page) so that the parameter reverts to its previous value.
Enter a valid value.

When you change a parameter's value from default and then click Apply, a dot is displayed next to the parameter's field or check box. In other words, if a dot isn't displayed, the parameter is at its default value.

When you change a value of a parameter that is displayed with a lightning-bolt icon (see below), you need to save your settings to flash memory with a device restart for changes to take effect.

When you change such a parameter and then click Apply, the Restart button on the toolbar is displayed in a red border, indicating you that you need to restart the device, which you can o by clicking the button:

Common parameters are displayed in bold font.
Fields of parameters that configure passwords provide a toggle icon that shows (eye) or hides (eye crossed out) the password when you type it in the field:

The Web interface always hides (by asterisks *or dots) passwords once they have been configured (i.e., you've clicked Apply). Therefore, the toggle eye icon doesn't show them even when clicked.

Parameters that enable or disable a functionality provide a check box. When selected (i.e., marked), functionality is enabled; when cleared (empty), functionality is disabled. The following shows an example of an enabled functionality:

Parameters with numerical values provide a field with a spin box. Clicking the up arrow increases the number while clicking the down arrow decreases it.

To get help on a parameter, hover your mouse over the parameter's field or check box to display a pop-up box with a brief description of the parameter.

The following procedure describes how to configure stand-alone parameters.

To configure a stand-alone parameter:
1. Modify the parameter's value as desired.
2. Click Apply; the changes are saved to the device's volatile memory (RAM).
3. Save the changes to the device's non-volatile memory (flash):
If a device restart is not required:
i. On the toolbar, click Save; a confirmation message box appears:

ii. Click Yes to confirm.
If a device restart is required:
i. On the toolbar, click Restart; the Maintenance Actions page opens.
ii. Click Restart; the device saves the changes to flash and then restarts.

For more information, see Restarting the Device.

When you click Apply, changes are saved only to the device's volatile memory. If the device later undergoes a hardware reset, a software restart (without saving to flash), or powers down, the changes revert to their previous settings . Therefore, make sure that you save your configuration to the device's flash memory.
