ICMP Parameters

The ICMP parameters are described in the table below.

ICMP Parameters

Parameter

Description

'Don't Send ICMP Unreachable Messages'

configure network > network-settings > icmp-disable-unreachable

[DisableICMPUnreachable]

Defines if the device generates and sends ICMP messages, if required.

[0] Disable = (Default) Device sends ICMP Unreachable messages.
[1] Enable = Device doesn't send ICMP Unreachable messages.

'Send and Receive ICMP Redirect Messages'

configure network > network-settings > icmp-disable-redirec

[DisableICMPRedirects]

Enables sending and receiving ICMP Redirect messages.

[0] Enable = (Default) Device sends and accepts ICMP Redirect messages.
[1] Disable = Device rejects ICMP Redirect messages and also doesn't send them.

'Enable ICMP Echo Requests Rate Limiting'

configure network > network-settings > limit-incoming-icmp-echo-requests

[LimitIncomingIcmpEchoRequests]

Defines if the device limits the number of allowed incoming ICMP echo requests.

[0] Disable = Allows unlimited number of incoming ICMP echo requests.
[1] Enable = (Default) The device limits the number of allowed incoming ICMP echo requests to 100 packets per second. This may be useful for protecting the device against ping flooding (i.e., DDoS).

[BlockIcmpTimeStamp]

Enables the device to block incoming ICMP timestamp requests and therefore, prevents the device from replying to these requests. The ICMP protocol allows for network timing measurements, by sending an ICMP timestamp request to a remote peer and receiving an ICMP timestamp in reply. However, sending ICMP timestamp replies by the device may expose the device to security vulnerabilities.

[0] = (Default) Accepts ICMP timestamp requests and replies to them.
[1] = Blocks incoming ICMP timestamp requests and therefore, doesn't reply to them.
